Security & Privacy Overview
How student data is handled in Wipeboard Education today.
Student data we collect
- A display name entered by the teacher (we ask for first name and last initial).
- A random 6-character student code used to sign in.
- Which tasks a student has completed, when, and whether the student or teacher marked it.
- Under-13 flags and the teacher's confirmation of school authorization and parent notification (COPPA).
- We do not collect student email addresses or student passwords. Students never create an account with personal details.
Who can see what
- Teachers: only classrooms, students, and boards in their own school, enforced by row-level security in the database.
- School admins: classroom summaries for their own school.
- Students: sign in with a class code and their student code (or by tapping their name on the class link) and see only their own class board and their own task status.
- Parents: a read-only link that shows one student's tasks only. No parent account is created.
Parent links
- Each link combines a classroom token with that student's code. Both must match before any data is returned.
- The link returns only that one student's tasks and completion status, and nothing can be changed through it.
- Each parent-link view is recorded in an access log.
- Teachers can turn parent view off for a classroom.
AI features
- AI tools help teachers draft boards and task descriptions using only subject, grade, and topic.
- Student names, codes, and completion data are never sent to an AI provider.
- AI features are turned off for classrooms that include students under 13.
Hosting and encryption
- The app and its database run on a managed cloud platform. Region and subprocessor details are available on request.
- All traffic to the site uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit).
Data deletion
- Each student record gets a deletion date when added, based on the end of the academic year.
- A nightly job deletes student records past their deletion date and records each deletion in the audit log.
- Teachers can delete individual students or export and roll over a class at year end from the data settings page.
- Schools can request deletion of all school data by emailing edu@wipeboard.io.
Activity logs
- Key actions — such as task check-offs, teacher verifications, and deletions — are written to an audit log tied to the school.
